Stregnthening the Neck Muscles 2

Our ability to withstand strikes to the head is dependent, among other things on our necks strength.

Exercises which grapplers perform such as neck bridges or lifting weight with the head are good, but not very specific. Simulating to the highest degree possible is always desirable…

Drill:

We stand with our head touching a heavy bag. We then simulate close fighting movement with our legs, while moving the bag only with our head.

Tips:

1. We must treat these sets as a strengthening exercise, meaning that we give sufficient rest periods between each repetition. 2. The push is relatively strong and short.

3. Practice while moving to allow better relaxation for the neck muscles and more precious simulation…

4. It is crucial to perform the exercise as a "head shove", rather than a head-but.
