Stregnthening the Neck Muscles

Training and Strengthening the Neck

Our ability to withstand strikes to the head is dependent, among other things on our necks strength.

Exercises which grapplers perform such as neck bridges or lifting weight with the head are good, but not very specific.

Simulating to the highest degree possible is always desirable…

Drill:

Standing in front of our partner with our fighting stance position; we both put one hand on our partners forehead and push at the same time backward or/and in any direction. During the push we resist the press utilizing our neck muscles.

Tips:

1. We must treat these sets as a strengthening exercise, meaning that we give sufficient rest periods between each repetition.

2. The push is relatively strong and short.

3. Practice while moving to allow better relaxation for the neck muscles and more precious simulation…
