Improving Stomach and Core Muscles No 16 - The Lizard Walk

Stomach and core muscles are probably one of the most important muscles we have for supporting our martial art training:

1. They are an important part of our body-core maneuverability.

2. A main component as our core stabilizer.

3. Important for protecting our internal organs against body blows.

There are many ways to improve and train our stomach muscles, in the upcoming articles we will go over some of them.

Drill:

We assume the push-up position, but this time on our elbows. While holding the static position, we advance forward an backward using our legs and hands. The movement resembles crawling, only without touching the ground with our stomach

Tips:

1. The amount of sets, their duration and the height level which our feet are kept off the ground, should be decided upon according to our abilities and endurance level both (mentally and physically).

2. This exercise helps strengthen our stomach muscles especially the inner ones used for posture and protecting vital organs, which we usually don't exercise when training dynamic sit ups.

3. It is important to keep the back straight not allowing it to over bend towards the floor.

4. We should be extra careful when advancing not to bang our elbows to the ground. For this reason it is especially important to perform this drill on something soft.
