Improving Stomach and Core Muscles No 18 - The Twister

Stomach and core muscles are probably one of the most important muscles we have for supporting our martial art training:

1. They are an important part of our body-core maneuverability.

2. A main component as our core stabilizer.

3. Important for protecting our internal organs against body blows.

There are many ways to improve and train our stomach muscles, in the upcoming articles we will go over some of them.

Drill:

We assume the push-up position. We then turn around with our back facing the ground and the stomach facing up. Our hands and legs still making sure we don't touch the ground. We then turn again resuming the push up position. The next turn should be to the other direction, so that we exercise our hands and core muscles equally in all direction.

Tips:

1. The amount of sets, their duration and the height level which our stomach is kept off the ground, should be decided upon according to our abilities and endurance level both (mentally and physically).

2. This exercise helps strengthen our stomach and back muscles especially the inner ones used for posture and protecting vital organs, which we usually don't exercise when training dynamic sit ups.

3. It is important to keep the back and stomach straight not allowing it to over bend towards the floor.
