Improving Stomach Muscles No 9

Stomach muscles are probably one of the most important muscles we have for supporting our martial art training:

1. They are an important part of our body-core maneuverability

2. A main component as our core stabilizer

3. Important for protecting our internal organs against body blows.

There are many ways to improve and train our stomach muscles, in the upcoming articles we will go over some of them.

Drill:

While being held in the guard position, by our partner, but with our back to him instead of our stomach we try to turn back to our stomach.

Tips:

1. The attempt to turn should be a short one and involve only our stomach muscles back muscles and core power.

2. We don't need to turn completely, the attempt, and the beginnings of the motions are important.

3. The amount of repetitions should be decided upon according to our abilities and endurance level both (mental and physical). Anyhow, the exercise is that of a "maximum lift" so only few repetitions are necessary.

4. This exercise helps strengthen our stomach, core and back muscles which helps provide the motion for such techniques as "bobbing and weaving" in boxing or shifting the core from one side to another in grappling.

5. It is important that our partner gives us the proper resistance - that which allows us to form some sort of motion, and not only a part of it. Improper motion will occur, if they will pull too strong or hold to tight.
